Rec U Events are a place to meet other adults who have
similar interests, to safely participate in various activities & have FUN!
The Greater Vancouver Recreation Unlimited Club (Rec
U) is a non-profit society incorporated January 2000. The Club has a Board of 5 Directors and will
be run by all the members who volunteer.
Our membership consists of both singles and couples between the ages of
25 - 45, (give or take a few!). We feel
that age, however, is not nearly as important as a sense of adventure and a
willingness to get out and meet new people!
All members must be at least 19 years of age to join.
Through our member volunteers, we provide a monthly
newsletter and mid-month update of activities in and around the Lower Mainland.
These activities include camping, hiking, biking, movies, dinners, theatre,
skiing, weekend get-aways, white water rafting, and volleyball, just to name a
few! Some of the benefits of membership include reduced rates on various events
(i.e. camping) and priority sign up at events. Some events such as house
parties are organized for members only. But we’d like to welcome non-members
to join us for our “drop-in” events. Members also receive the monthly newsletter
and update sent to them via e-mail (or snail mail, if you prefer!)
$20 per year. Most of our events are free or at cost
to our members. The $20 yearly membership fee goes towards such costs as
advertising, postage, replacement of sports equipment (i.e. volleyball nets),
miscellaneous office supplies, and also towards securing big-ticket events that
require large cash deposits in advance (i.e. deposits for cabins at Manning
Park). As we are a non-profit club, we have never made any money or taken a
salary for any of our services. Everything is done on a purely volunteer basis
and all of our financial records are open to members.
